What TruEra does
TruEra was an AI observability company that built tools to test, debug, evaluate, and monitor machine-learning models and, later, large-language-model applications. Founded in 2019 and spun out of research on model explainability, it helped teams evaluate the quality of inputs, outputs, and intermediate results of ML models and LLM apps, revealing anomalies in model metrics and providing root-cause analysis for rapid debugging. Its observability capabilities extended to identifying LLM-specific risks such as hallucination, bias, and toxicity, helping organizations improve reliability and demonstrate compliance with emerging AI regulations. TruEra was also the creator of TruLens, a popular open-source library for evaluating and tracing LLM and RAG applications. In May 2024, Snowflake acquired TruEra to embed AI observability directly into its Data Cloud; the co-founders and much of the team joined Snowflake. As of mid-2026, TruEra no longer operates as an independent product: its technology powers AI Observability in Snowflake Cortex (which uses TruLens for tracing and evaluation), while TruLens remains open source. Buyers evaluating TruEra today are effectively evaluating Snowflake Cortex AI Observability.
