What Lakera does

Lakera is an AI-native security company that provides real-time guardrails to protect generative-AI applications and agents from prompt injection, jailbreaks, data leakage, and unsafe content. Its flagship product, Lakera Guard, is a low-latency API that screens model inputs and outputs, detecting adversarial prompts, PII exposure, toxic content, and policy violations, and can be deployed as SaaS or self-hosted. Lakera also offers Red, an automated red-teaming product for stress-testing GenAI systems before and after deployment. The company is well known for Gandalf, a viral online prompt-injection game played by millions that feeds a continuously growing threat-intelligence database of novel real-world attacks, which Lakera uses to keep its detection models current. Founded in Zurich, Switzerland, Lakera raised a $20M Series A in July 2024 led by Atomico with Citi Ventures and Dropbox Ventures, bringing total funding to about $30M. In 2025, Check Point Software agreed to acquire Lakera in a deal reported at roughly $300M, positioning its technology within Check Point's enterprise AI-security stack. Lakera is aimed at security teams and developers deploying LLM applications who need continuously updated, model-agnostic runtime protection informed by live adversarial data.
